I found out, through the rare books listserv that today is the anniversary of the apprehension of Stephen Blumberg, one of the most famous book thieves. It is now (unofficially) dubbed Bibliomania Day.

Oh dear. If I remember correctly, the famous book thief was from Ottumwa, Iowa, the town where I went to high school. Fortunately, he was one bad apple among many good ones... but no town needs that kind of publicity. (It all happened long after I had left the area.) Interesting that a day has been named after his caper and arrest! - Hang in there with the papers and all the rest! Think of you often!
